How to make a tasteful online giving page

09 January 2018 09:06

As British people, we are inherently awkward when it comes to talking about money or financial giving. It can be hard enough to address the topic in church, let alone even think about stating it online.

However, having an online giving page can be such a powerful way of sharing your vision and it can really help people engage with that, and give online.

Do people really give online? If so... how much?

You may be surprised to learn that donations made via websites, social media and apps account for 26% of donations in the UK, and 17% of all donations in 2016 were made using a mobile device.

Additionally, the average online donation in the UK increased by 20% (£63.69 vs. £52.87) from Jan 2010 to Dec 2014, and of all online donations in 2016, 10% were £800 or more, and 40% of nonprofits received at least one online donation of £800 or more*

How can we enable online giving?

Online giving covers a number of routes which enable an individual to give to your church online:

Online Bank Transfer

You can give your church bank details so that people can transfer money directly or setup a standing order. With this, it's worth remembering to put your gift aid form online.

By Just Giving

Just Giving can be a useful way to enable payments. However, it's worth remembering the percentage they take and so you may prefer to use a more direct method.

Use Give.net

Give.net is a simple way to enable online payments, powered by Stewardship.

Text giving

There are many services which will help you enable text giving. As with Just Giving, this service can take a percentage but it could be worth using as the uptake may be higher with the younger members of your congregation.

How do you ensure your giving page is effective?

Just as you'd speak about your giving in church, it can be helpful to also share about why you give on your giving page. This could help frame your giving options for someone who is completely new to your church. You may also wish to share about your vision for the church, as this is what they'll be giving to.

Can we help?

We've created a range of giving pages for Church Pages websites, so do not hesitate to get in touch if you'd like to speak to our team.
