What Tools can I use to Test my Church Website?

30 August 2017 18:42

We are often asked what we think of church websites (we love this by the way) and there are some great tools that we use when shaping our advice to churches.

This is advice that comes from our main day-time work with online businesses, and the tools are still very useful for christ-centred organisations too. We've picked our top three free tools however, if you have any form of analytics (Google Analytics, PIWIK analytics) this is also incredibly valuable information about your website too.

Three Free Website Tools for Churches

1. Is your Church Website Mobile Friendly?

If we were restricted to only one question, it would be this. It is essential that websites are built to be viewed on mobile devices. A 'responsive' website will ensure it's content changes shape depending on the size of the screen that you are using. As search engines such as Google are interested in their users having a 'good search experience', they now take into account whether your website gives viewers a good experience when viewed from a mobile device...

To test if your church website is mobile friendly, you can use Google's Mobile Friendly Test

2. How Quickly Does your Church Website Load?

We all know the annoying feeling of waiting for a website to load (even with a fibre broadband connection!) However, a slow loading website is not just a minor annoyance but it actually again affects your search rankings as again, this affects your viewers experience of your website.

To measure your church website page load speed, you can use Google's PageSpeed Insights Tool. This will measure to milliseconds, how quickly your church website loads.

3. Is your Church Website Found Online?

Usually, people use a quick Google to try and find their church online. Whilst this is useful, it will always give you limited information about how you rank for certain words as your search results are tailored for you.

There are many online tools that can be used for this, SEM Rush can be a good first point of call. This will show the content that your website ranks for and give you information about your traffic.

What now?

So, we hope you enjoy gaining insights into how your church website performs and of course, whilst tools are useful it can also be invaluable to discuss your thoughts. If you'd like to discuss your church website results or just ask us more generally about your website, simply get in touch.
