The After-Easter Checklist

30 April 2019 14:42

It has only been 9 days since Easter and we hope it was an excellent time of celebration and joy for your church and community. I don't know about your church but ours was overly full of people who only ever come to church at Christmas and Easter.

Over Easter, we hope many of your churches interacted in a new way with members of your community and here is a checklist of things we would recommend following this busy period.

When we were thinking about what actions to take following a busy period, we reflected on how we help our Khooseller customers retain their eCommerce customers and, although this is not entirely the same, there are learnings we felt for churches.

1. A continued conversation...

When people came to your Easter service, in some way or another, you started an interaction with them and it is important to continue that conversation. This means continuing to share about Easter on your social channels in a follow up post, and then sharing about your upcoming services with the same momentum.

It can be quite common to go onto church websites in the weeks following Easter to see the same banners about the Easter services/times etc. It's very important to keep your website updated and give people up to date information about your normal services and ongoing events.

2. A personal invite...

At Easter, your congregation may have made a particular effort to invite others and this again, needs to be kept up with the same momentum. We all love a personal invite and whether this is to Alpha, Christianity Explored, or just for coffee - invite someone! We wrote about the loneliness epidemic that we are witnessing in the UK and a personal invite can be part of the antidote to this.

3. A (second) warm welcome...

Over the Easter period, no doubt your churches would have put effort into creating a warm welcome for visitors. However, for returning visitors, will they get the same warm hello with perhaps a depleted welcome team? We're big believers that all members of the congregation are the 'welcome team' so we'd encourage you to give returning visitors a second warm welcome to your church.

Can we help?

Here at Church Pages, our heart is to support churches to use digital tools (their website, social media channels) to welcome newcomers to their church. If you'd like any support in reaching your community online or having a church website, do not hesitate to get in touch with our team.
